Christian Science Nurse Education:

Classes and training for individuals aspiring to learn and improve his or her Christian Science nursing skills are offered by many Christian Science nursing organizations.  We suggest that you contact the AOCSN member facility nearest you for information on what is available locally and for assistance in finding other resources that might meet your needs.  The following AOCSN member facilities listed below have provided the following information on the classes they offer:

Fern Lodge, Castro Valley, CA

The Fern Lodge Christian Science Nurses Education Program offers practical and thorough instruction to Christian Scientists. Our unique approach allows individuals to take courses at the rate which best meets their learning styles. In all courses, nursing skills are put into practice under the supervision of a qualified instructor. The Church Manual bylaw, Christian Science Nurse, is a touchstone in all the nurse’s metaphysical studies and provides the basis of all practical nursing care.

Introduction to Christian Science Nursing
A one week course delving into the metaphysical basis of Christian Science nursing, its source in Christianity, and its importance to the Christian Science movement.

Christian Science Nursing 1
Basic Skills to care for individuals who have varying degrees of mobility; Bed Care; Ethics 1;
General Food preparation.

Christian Science Nursing 2
Includes Wound Care and Bandaging; Food modification for unique situations; Caring for Special Needs, including Care of Mental Needs; Field Nursing; Ethics 2.

Supervision
“ How to gather, how to sow, how to feed Thy sheep,” A course in the Christian principles of supervision.

Maternity Care
Nursing at the birth of a baby. This is a one-week course of instruction in the care of mothers and infants.

Refresher Courses
For any Journal-listed or practicing Christian Science nurse who would like an update on skills or ethics. Course will be tailored to meet individual requests.
